About 1080Alert

1080Alert is a free notification service for New Zealanders who want to know when aerial 1080 pest control operations are happening near them. Whether you're a dog owner, hunter, tramper, or rural resident, we help you stay informed so you can take precautions.

How it works

We monitor publicly available Department of Conservation (DOC) data via ArcGIS Online. When a new operation is announced, commences, or completes near your chosen location, we send you an email alert. You can subscribe for free with just your email address and a location — no account or password needed.

Why we built this

1080 is a critical tool for protecting native wildlife in New Zealand, but it's also highly toxic to dogs and a concern for rural communities with private water supplies. Official notifications can be hard to find or easy to miss. We built 1080Alert to make it simple: enter your location, and we'll let you know.

Who we are

1080Alert is operated by Virgola, a small software studio based in New Zealand. We're independent of the Department of Conservation and any pest control operators.
